Is there any sound in the game?

Post by Newplayer »

Hello, i am new to this game so please excuse my question but:

Is there ANY sound in the game??? I was reading at this page that there is NO sound in version 1.6.0 and 1.5.0.... what about the older versions?

as well there is a crossfire-sounds package to download (debian)...

so what is it for if i cannot hear anything...

or is it just that i am a linux newbie as well? ;-)

thanks for help

I have no sound in the new 1.6.1 client either...

Running WinXP

The 1.5.0 client worked fine as far as sound went but was not nearly as pretty or usefull as 1.6.1

Sound in crossfire

Post by tchize »

Yes, there are still sound in crossfire. The fact is to get sound you need:

- a soundserver (compiled at same time as client if there are any supported sound libs like alsa alsa9 or oss, check the box 'enable sound' in client configuration too)
- the sound package installed (it has not changed much, so take the most recent one you find on sourceforge).

But am not sure you *want* to hear those sounds.

Concerning the debian packages, it's that's named crossfire-sounds, this mean it contains sounds i suppose, simply read the package description

Last but not least, concerning windows, there aren't any supported libs in cvs for windows (neither Direct sound nor windows mmultimedia). I think Ryo plans to add windows sound support but it hasn't been done yet.

Sorry its just funny as the 1.5.0 winclient did have sound - not great... but it had sound. while the 1.6.0 AND 1.6.1 (which are not that nmuch of a departure from 1.5.0) do not have sound compiled in... t'was a bit of a surprise thats all...
