are you pointing the java editor to the archetypes?

it has them built in, so if you update them you need to point to an external set.

Someone who understands the java editor better than me can probably clarify that more.

Also (but this is later, after you have dealt with the editor and want to run the server with the new items), you need to rebuild the archetypes. The archetypes individually are in arch/ but they are built into several files with a special script that is run at compile time. You will need to issue make collect and make sure the newly generated files are in place to make the server recognise the new items.
