I have looked nearly everywhere and have not yet found a step-by-step guide on creating my own server. I downloaded the game client, the server, and mapsets. Then after I installed everything I made a couple of maps. The thing I don't really understand however, is how to: 1. Play the custom maps that I created online with my friends, and 2. Get the server to actually connect. Whenever I double click on the crossfire32 application in my Crossfire Server folder, the window comes up and it scrolls down, running various commands, until it says, "Waiting for connections..." Then it just stops and doesn't move on from there. If anyone could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Help creating my own server.
Believe it or not, a guide hasn't been written for that (yet?..)JoeK wrote:I have looked nearly everywhere and have not yet found a step-by-step guide on creating my own server.
You mention later on that you are using the Windows version of Crossfire. Were they downloaded from SourceForge?JoeK wrote: I downloaded the game client, the server, and mapsets. Then after I installed everything I made a couple of maps.
What version of Windows are you using?
Where, as in what directory, di d you save these maps to?JoeK wrote: The thing I don't really understand however, is how to: 1. Play the custom maps that I created online with my friends, and
Crossfire is a client & server based game. You need to download and install the client as well.JoeK wrote: 2. Get the server to actually connect. After you launch the client, your friends need to type in the IP address of your server.
If you are going to run the client and the server on the same machine, then you can get by with using "localhost" (without the quotes) in your client.

Re: Help creating my own server.
Whoops.. I think with the Windows server, one has to recompile the source code if they want to test/use a custom or new map.Leaf wrote:Where, as in what directory, di d you save these maps to?JoeK wrote: The thing I don't really understand however, is how to: 1. As to mlab's reply, I got to it saying "Waiting for connections..." and then I typed in the number for connec to local host and pressed enter and the screen that had the "Waiting for connections..." exited. The client said it could not connect.
As for Leaf, I'm not sure if I downloaded them from sourceforge... I'm using Windows XP.
I saved the maps to Crossfire Server\Shared\Maps folder.
I also have the client.
And would it be extremely difficult to recompile the source code? (Probably -.-) and if not, do you by chance know how?

I don't have an explantation for the server exiting or crashing when a client tries to connect.JoeK wrote:I got to it saying "Waiting for connections..." and then I typed in the number for connec to local host and pressed enter and the screen that had the "Waiting for connections..." exited. I have a HOWTO in the works for installing the server & maps and then connecting via localhost, but they won't be online for a couple of days.
