why not death penalty ?

1- you buy a credit card (except for the turist class who get one at start

)
2- you drop $ at bank, where they steal maybe 10% and credit the rest on your account
3- you buy what you can afford with it

and best : is it possible to drop without having to convert from silver 2 gold 2 plat ?

So then he would start a new character and get money, then pay off the debt.

Maybe it would be possible to allow a way to formally recognise debts between players, so that it would be a way to profit by paying off someone's debt, and then having them repay more later.

If they refused, then they would return to gaol.

Playing the game as a loan shark could prove most amusing....

Ok. Tell ya what. I have something called a lot of plat, diamonds.
And I keep multiple charectors rich. I could easily buy myself, or fight my way out, of a debtors prison provided a way.
