The items you are initially given are from the gods, so if you drop them they are given back to the gods so you can't seel them for money.
Because right clicking drops an item, that's what was happening.
Middle click the item (or click left and right to simulate middle click) to equip an item.
Shift + Left click to lock an item, so you can't drop it on accident. (Shfit + Left click again to unlock it)

You should be able to connect to any of the servers regardless of whether they are running linux or windows

As for the lag, that's interesting - if you are playing on your own server there there really shouldn't be any lag. Are you playing on localhost (the last one on the list) are elsewhere?

depends what server you pick. linux/mac/windows dont make a difference, but some severs have worse connections, and lag pretty bad. stick with metalforge, cause theres normally someone on to help, but if you like mass killing, cat2 has no rules.
