what windows are you running? 98? 2000? XP?

95/98 are known not to work with the client, although normally a different error then that.

What client are you using? The GTK?
(If you don't know, show me the link where you downlloaded from)

The message you have is obviously the *server* message. If you only want to play, without hosting a server, you just need the *client*.

URL is: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/cros ... e?download

Ok I downloaded the GTK client and I get the screen that says welcome to Crossfire and then I see what looks like a playing screen.

Says score, hp, mp and so on.

It's telling me to select a server so I type in one of the server names on the right and I always get immediately thrown out of the game.

Try installing and using the files that are linked here:

Also, grab the GTK version 2.2 or 2.4 - 2.6 is known to *not* work currently with the client.

Thanks everyone for your help. I managed to get the game running but I'm the only one on the server because I can't connect to the 2 servers with 15 people on them. Probably a linux server or something like that.

Couldn't figure out how to equip my mace so to resolve that problem I made a dragon. Bugged me that everytime I right clicked on the item and such it would "return to the gods".
No items need equipping, no problem.

This game seems decent, but I get a little lag when I'm walking so all of a sudden sometimes I move 3 or 4 steps. Is there anything I can turn off to get this to not lag?
