But it does add this to consider, the number of DM's would have to double or triple (or there abouts..)

Each region would have an assigned DM - who at most, is only available 6 to 8-hours per day.

So, a second or third DM would(?) be needed for that other 16 to 18 hours of the day.

This is the point, crossfire is set in a middle-ages style place. Travelling was slow and difficult back then, so that the game should reflect that seems sensible to me. Yes, it is convenient to zip around the world like crazy, but it is too easy that way.
Zephyrus wrote: Limiting the spell may limit exploration for some,
I think it may do the opposite, without the crutch of WoR, cities would have to stand on their own, and players travelling to cities would actually have an incentive to stay there more than half an hour at a time.
Zephyrus wrote: because not all of us can make the walk from Navar to Scorn (for exapmple) without becoming really frustrated. With the current worldmap size, I do not particularly enjoy the idea of not being able to recall.
This is actually another point altogether, what I want to have in the not to distant future is a 'follow' command. (it is another item on my todo list after regions.) This would be of the form follow [playername] and, as long as you were on the same map (true for tiled maps like world map) you would then move to be always in the square two behind where they last walked.

I wanted to have it for the purposes of leading people to quests (the newb question 'where is such and such a quest?' 'Meet me in scorn and follow me' kind of thing). But there is great potential for a guide bot too, one that is set up by dm's to be invincible, and would on request go from region to region, so that players could follow it. (and PK-ers could lie in wait for the long train of newbs wandering towards them.....)

I haven't yet figured out how such a thing would be written, maybe sam could be pressed into service for that?

Of course I also want to have transition maps for ships and dragons, they should take time to get where they are going (at least 30 seconds or so) and there should probably be some random dangers along the way (tornados, whirlpools, shark attacks) possibly forcing a ship wreck (land on a random beach square somewhere in the world.....) Yes, this could leave players stuck, the ship's ticket could be a mangled scroll of word of recall, that is taken away if the ship lands safely.

I think this is a great idea (sorry to post so late into the discussion) and agree that it would encourage extended stays in, and fuller exploration of, the world's cities. Maybe from the Nethack maps we could bring back a Candelabra of Invocation?

note, if WoR is limited, i think there should be some trade of, for example allowing more than one portal for a player

Actually, Town portal was fourth on my list of things to nerf, on the basis that it is a town portal, that should be its range, a town.

I am however thinking that there is merit in a 'world portal' spell, one that would act over the entire world. This would want to be a much higher level spell though (I am thinking level 80-odd sorcery)....

And yes, under this model, there would be no good gameplay reason not to have one town portal per region.....

Yes, if WoR is limited, all apts should connect to eachother, one way or another. Some people store all their items in one apt. So you should make it always easy to get back to that apt.

Actually the other thing that is wanted instead is a removal company, one that will take all the items in one of your unique maps, and move them to another, for a fee of course. (I am thinking 100 plat or 1% of their total value sounds about right)

Paying to have your items moved is overkill. You should instead pay for all the apts and link between them, and pay for each inter-apt transport. like 100 plat to tranport from Dtabb apt to Scorn apt, assuming you own both.

why not create a few seperated worlds, one with scorn, one with navar, one with wolfsburg, one for lake country, ...
worlds which you cannot leave or travel between several worlds without paying a huge amount of money, in wich you have to do all your travels by walking long long distances.

This (and other) ideas i've been reading recently will result in - IMHO - only more players in Scorn, and scorns TC.
At least, it discourages exploring a LOT, for traveling costs either a bunch of money or you have to spent 15 IRL minutes walking from scorn to navar and back.
it took me (lvl 113 char with lvl 113 equipent, speed 6.30) 2.5 minutes to walk from scorn to navar, using the road.

That was discussed. TO create sepearate worlds or world maps, you need to get a team together so you can work on restructuring. Because there is no such team, or people willing to try, It wont be done.
