Indeed, this is what the chat channel is for.
Really - well it SUCKS and it fails to do that, because that is EXACLTY what should was carved out and designed to do.

The proof is in the puddle. The Chat channel has unleashed a blight of over regulation on the players and annoyed most of the players.

I remember finding a comment in code somewhere which said that shout channel is a system channel which you can't turn off, so I was surprised to find out that 'listen 0 does work to turn it off.

So what's the problem with 'chat = old 'shout + offtopic ? seems like a good thing to have

This is disingenous since this is not the whole rule. It is the part that restricts Shout which has become the problem.

Ruben
So which restriction is a problem for you? My understanding is that it is OK to allow offtopic chatter in 'chat with you?

How is anything being ruined if we (players) are given more freedom?

No

You can't because you have to GO there. It is not spontaneous and it has created a reign of terror where every one needs instructions on how to shout be the officials, which includes a threat.

Ruben
hm..this is most upsetting, am positive now that we are talking about different servers. Metalforge is a perfect example of aothority not being based on fear.
Where do you have to go again ? to 'chat? :P

I don't see any abuse of power here at all, teleporting to a player to show him some respect instead of telling to stfu over tell is worth praising. Once a DM is near you do know you've got their attention and can sort out any misunderstanding there could have been.

I am curious, where were you teleported to and what sort of question was it? This might shed some more light on the situation...

I can certainly see how it can be seen as heavy-handed, indeed I would be inclined to consider that as such myself.

I probably can see that too, but it all depends on the details of how it happens as it is easy to misinterpret. IMHO I would not cosider this abusive in any way as had it done to myself prenty of times before. It also depends on your ralationship with a particular DM or DM community I guess.

You know, I've played this server for years, one of the longest playing players. I deserve enough respect to not be threatened, teleported and given a benifit of the doubt based on my reputation and longivity alone. And my opinion should matter. If I'm telling a DM that we have a problem with the Chat rule, just out of respect for who I am, and my history with the group should put it under consideration..........

Really, it is not that common. But I agree with Ruben. And I find chat is becoming constricted like shout. If you dont wanna hear shout, petition for a no_shout command that make it so you cant hear shout.

BTW: I have had at least 30 run ins.

Wow.. Such a heated (and perhaps misdirected?) discussion over one player mistakenly perceiving another player as a DM... ?
