Well, you can query for your position on map.. have the server query for map position on a player.. if it doesn't change for say 15 mins, he gets teleported to some safe spot..
I think 15 minute idle time (maybe 30) is more than enough.
Fixing TC ABUSE..

Making the map require a reset would be the best way to discourage camping as it would not reset with an idle player on the map. This is why the map guide discourages building maps with unlimited monsters (although it is possible to farm some maps by not attacking the generators - this requires a bit of planning and it is possible for another player to take out the generators - also there was discussion on setting a max spawn for generators to avoid farming.)
Resets are the key mechanism in moving players to new areas and allowing others the opportunity to access popular maps.
There are cases where unlimited monsters could be used for certain effect which are fine - usuly in these cases the xp value of these monsters should be very low to discourage camping/farming. Mixing valuable monsters with unlimited generation is almost always a bad idea.
There are few 'rules' for making maps aside from making sure they work as planned, but there many good guidelines which should be followed.

Well i think if you spend a night in there with an idle bot even if the monsters give low exp the botter gets a fair ammount of exp.Avion wrote: usuly in these cases the xp value of these monsters should be very low to discourage camping/farming.
It's like in RO.I see level 20 guys in level 1 places and getting one level after another. So i think this would both,be useless and be unfair to the ones who train in there to get better.
I is sexy,ain't I?
I just had to try it..
I put my self in Skeleton TC.. Summoned bunch of pets.. At first, I thought, this "sucks".. Skeletons are what, 200 xp?
..but as time went on.. with about 15 pets in there, killing 1 skeleton every 1-2 seconds..
15*200 = 3000 xp every 1-2 seconds..
You leave a bot over night, and it adds up.. Heck, not even a bot.. just idle player..
I think the low-level TC's really need to get fixed, and SOON..
For that matter.. I see people in Raffle 1 do the exact same thing.. Since the place has generators, they stand there with flaming aura or automated steambolt all night long.. 1 steambolt = 3-5 giants = 9-15k experience a shot!
Look, I don't want to make the game any harder than it can be, but these EXPLOITS are ruining it.. at least for me.. At this rate, everyone will be sitting in TC or Raffle and no one will really be playing.. You can say people ruin their own fun by cheating.. but when 1 person works hard and earns their pay, and the other one doesn't and earns same pay.. how do you think the hard working person feels? Cheated

Not enough DM's between hours of 7pm and 7am Central time.. No one enforcing the rules.. Cannot require DM's to be present at all times, but unfortunately, during night hours, there is no one enforcing the rules.. they, including the people breaking the server rules, are probably sleeping..
Maybe since people are using bots to exp-camp, etc.. the DM's can have automated script too, to enforce rules and jail people who remain in a map for extended periods of time

Although I generally agree that the first 4 training areas (w/ infinite spawns) should be MOSTLY unused by high players to reserve them for new players, there's STILL the issue of a high level player going there to train skills they skipped on their way up.
One simply CANNOT train everything equally on the way to high levels if one expects to GET there in a "small" (say week-2weeks, month or 2 for higher levels) timeframe. There just isn't a better place to train skills that were passed by. That's where the map ownership comes in.
As to the scripting issues in lower TCs, I think metalforge has put forth a fantastic requirement. A player HAS to be able to respond to tells/DM tells, or face prison for using afk scripts.
Related to the above, though I forget the person: A player on metalforge wanted to automate training (I forget who and what, but it doesn't matter for this example). He agreed to incorporate 1) an auto response to tells, saying he was a bot, and how to turn him off via tell and 2) responding to said "tell" keywords w/ a halt of the bot action and a RECALL, so he'd end up in his apt. if someone else wanted/needed the map. BRILLIANT! I would NEVER have a problem w/ this kind of script, as it allows others to both turn the bot off and use the area for themselves. The only 2 things I could add to this script are creating and eating food to stay alive for the possibly LONG unexpected time spent afk, and a response to "say" messages that matches the "tell" messages. IE, how to turn off/remove the bot in question.
Sure, they're AFK training, but the details via a proper script mean ANYbody else who needs the area can evict them. As just stated, I have NO problem w/ this. If Leaf does have a problem w/ it, then I'll obviously have to adapt my attitudes on his server(s?). 'S just how it works : ) For anybody considering such a script, I'd also advise you to make a statement every 3-5 mins (not shout, say) informing possible players near you that you're a bot, and how to interact w/ you.
I'd have to guess that if you follow ALL the points of this post, you CAN indeed use AFK scripts on metalforge servers in the lower TC areas. Just don't expect to train long : P And remember, you HAVE to be able to be kicked by other players. If you can't, you WILL end up either in jail or banned. 'S just how it works. : )

I agree with this POV. Fixin' this stuff with code is not necessary. Just need server rules that are enforced.Ryo wrote:Some servers forbid map camping.
If someone is doing that on a server like that, report to your local DM, s/he'll take care of the issue.
As for ruining the game, too bad for the ones using those 'exploits'.
And I personally don't think a fix is required - just server rules.
Personally think we should look at the maps and make necessary modifications - you can't have a DM monitor to see if folks are camping out and enforce this type of policy but you can make it so that maps follow basic reset rules and do not have infinite monsters generated. In the 'general' map package these sort of things should be dealt with - if someone want's to allow it on their server then they can always put these types of maps in. Areas like the raffel were known points to gain xp but required *some* work - and folks were always waiting for their turn which would encourage exploration. At least with accessable generators pets and area effect spells would damage the generators.
Personaly I think that any so called 'training areas' should have cut rates of XP so that they are used to actually train players and not specifically to level up. It should be more lucrative to explore than to train.

new poll on wiki
Well I know you can poll on the forum here but you can also poll on the Crossfire wiki. Since I was bopping around there anyway soliciting spells and recipies or any other content for the game (plug plug) I thought I would put up a new poll - you can visit it here:
