Hey, I've been playing Crossfire for a few days now, just on my own, I dont connect to the servers or anything, just standalone.
I have a problem. I wandered into a building in one of the towns, and by mistake got myself locked inside. I've been working at it for quite some time now, and I just can't get outside. The real problem is that I saved it just after getting locked inside, and killed the window... when I start again, I am back in the same place. Still locked inside.
All I need to do is to move my character 2 tiles up and I'd be able to get back to it. I dont want to start a new character though, as I'd be set right back to the start and would have to begin again.
I found the user.pl file in /var/games/crossfire/players/ I made a new character and tried editing the bed_x and bed_y co-ordinates, but it won't load that trial character anymore, it's back like in the beginning when you have to make the character. (A security feature?)
Does anyone know how I can modify the co-ordinates? I also dont want to be reset back to an Inn or anything, as I am in a very trasure rich environment and I odnt think I could find it again.
Please help. Any help people can give is greatly appreciated.

Before hacking the player file you might try:
A. which building is it - maybe this is a map bug (no way out when reset) which needs fixing or maybe you just need a hint.
B. how about creating another character in a new instance of the client and using them to let the first guy out?
C. make your player or another player a DM and either just stroll out through a wall our summon him out.

A. I dont really know where the building is. Though, I wish I did, because then suggestion B would make things very very simple. Perhaps this is a bug? Not likely though, as it was just by chance that I was on my way out, hit the switch, and then hit the wrong direction key...Avion wrote:Before hacking the player file you might try:

The building I am in is a very large Warehouse, which has both a monstrous dungeon and a few Beds to Reality... And now that I think about it, it was stupid to use a bed to reality inside a dungeon, but now even when I run out of food, I start in the same dungeon, and still behind the locked gate.
C - ? What is a DM? and how is it done?
DM = Dungeon Master. Your server should have a file named "dm_file" somewhere. Open it in a text editor and read the contents. You simply need to add a line likeStrongKungFu wrote:C - ? What is a DM? and how is it done?
*:mysecretpassword:*
In the end of the file and then you can use command 'dm mysecretpassword in the game to enter dm mode with a character. Then, to summon your other character type 'summon <charactername>.

thanks.
Uhm, now how do I turn the dungeon master off? Or do I just forget about the extra player I created to be the DM?

To "leave" DM mode while playing, type the command:
nodm

If this is the case that map should have an emergency exit beacuse this will happen whenever players use the save beds and the map resets - unless there is a real good reason to trap players like this (like a secret exit to find). If you can find the map again please let us know so it can be fixed (or not). It is likely a bug although of the playability kind instead of the code kind.StrongKungFu wrote:

Re: thanks.
Ehum, logging out and in again should do the trick. Or you could always use the nodm command like Leaf suggested.StrongKungFu wrote:Uhm, now how do I turn the dungeon master off? Or do I just forget about the extra player I created to be the DM?

thanks
thanks all. It worked out great. I will try to find that dungeon again, as I could not figure a way out, and it was basically just one big open warehouse area with a few smaller rooms. Anyway, thanks again.
