They might, I believe it is a devourers' enchanted weapon that gets extra attack types, I would fully expect players to do batch enchanting of weapons.

On metalforge I have a non-artifact taifu which has weapon magic attack

Some of the lesser artifact weapons are common, most players have dozens of firebrands for example.

Any of these could be used against weak monsters in place of a chaos sword.

all gods add some attack type, some rather worthless, some very useful.

AFAIK all taifu's are magic weapons and cant be enchanted - except by praying to some god

which is against the spirit of the game as i understand it:
Gain lvls, get stronger, find better equipment. use this equipment to find even better equipment, until you collected the best possible equipment.

(And IMO it should be possible to finally become invulnerable at lvl 115)

Actually, there should be about 200 levels. Because at one point, you have to be able to use Rugilli's whisker

There should never be invulnerable anything. Because to quote someone "Every strong man has his weak spot'. Fantasy always has people with weak spots.

Actually, a customized dagger of mumble mumble mumble works quite well against cyclops ... once one has sufficient Wc to hit 'em.

true, lvl 51 or 52 onehanded weapons and a dagger with death attack is good enough against cyclops. but not everyone is capable to enchant to mumble mumble mumble and not everyone is (able to reach) lvl 52 one handed weapons.

And not everyone should be able to take down a cyclops without risk to their health and/or equipment.....

dont worry, a new started player (so one that has no knowledge) that has to collect his own equipment cant ignore a cyclops, not even at lvl 70

You misread what I typed. Read what I typed again. Note I did not say "enchant to mumble mumble mumble". I typed something that has a totally different meaning. =)

Perhaps, but I think that should only happen if they can either see the player via xray vision or something, or are being hit by a spell. Also, I think that only certain monsters (the more intelligent ones) should be able to do this.
