This might actually be intented but...
there are several ways to gain invisibility:
invisibility: This spell will make you invisible. Monsters will not attack or cast spells because they can't see you. You will start be visible again if you attack or use spells.
improved invisibility: This spell is a better version of invisible. You will stay invisible even if you attack or use spells!!
items that give invisibility. (they give the same lvl of invisibility as improved invisibility does, isnt it?)
there are several items that give invisibility:
- cloak of invisibility
- many colored cloak
- god finger
- shoes of invisibility (never found those)
There is one major difference between those items and the spells. When i use a spell, i actually DO see myself (blinking)
When i apply one of these items, i DONT see myself.
I understand why the many colored cloak makes me blind for myself (it's in the description of the cloak: "Once completely wrapped in this cloak (making the user blind) the wearer is rendered invisible."
but i fail to see why this also applies to the other items. the cloak of invisibility has severe drawbacks ((Str-10)(Dex-10)(Con-10)(resist paralyzation -100)) and the shoes seems to be even worse.
Only the god finger has pretty stats (but its a 'hard to find' item)
according to the description the items have - or lack - i conclude i should see myself when i apply one of these items (except the many colored cloak), just like i do with the spells.

Have you ever wondered that if your invis, why should you see yourself?
I think there should be instead of blinking the image with invis, there should be a gray scale image of the player when wearing ring. So you can "see" yourself, but no one can see you, or a left over image...

From the RP point of view it could be that invisibility does not actually make you completely invisible, but only provides partial ability to hide from monsters, or only makes you invisible for 99 out of every 100 seconds.
When you do attack a monster while being under an effect of such a spell the mob pays more attention to details of the hostile world and notices flaws in the 'invisibility' spell hence the mob finally sees you.
'Improved invisibility' on the other hand does not possess such flaw and hence takes much longer to run out even if you slash and smash everything on your way.
One could probably go on and on theorizing about the effects and reasons for those effects, it's part of the fun to use role playing perspective to try and explain the features(sometimes even bugs) of the game

so i just wonder, is this intented, or 'accidented'

From RPing point of view though, how do you wield a sword while being invisible if you can not see your own hand? Or tie shoelaces if they become invisible upon touching you? (Not that cf has shoelaces but that's a minor point

euh... cant you tie shoelaces with closed eyes? I can...Salathar wrote:From RPing point of view though, how do you wield a sword while being invisible if you can not see your own hand? Or tie shoelaces if they become invisible upon touching you? (Not that cf has shoelaces but that's a minor point)
and i can drink a cup of tea with my eyes closed, and and ..
ppl (and elven too, i assume) have quite a good knowledge of their location, their movements and the space they occupy, so i dont see that problem.
The question rather is: how would mobs react on walking equipment?

You know..i never tried, but I would imagine it would be disorientating and rather uncomfortable at bestMith wrote:euh... cant you tie shoelaces with closed eyes? I can...

True, up to the point where they had too much of that wonderful 'booze' drinkMith wrote:ppl (and elven too, i assume) have quite a good knowledge of their location, their movements and the space they occupy, so i dont see that problem.

Here is a simple workaround: the magic of the spell envelops the objects that are within certain proximity of the character, thus the sword would also become invisible once it's wielded. On the other hand, how do modern day mobs react to animate weapon?Mith wrote:The question rather is: how would mobs react on walking equipment?

Let me abuse this suggestion: the magic of the spell surrounds the player and the items he wields. Due to he magic nature of a magic spell, the force doesnt hide items inside the magic field for eyes inside that very same field. Hence, you can see your hands, your shoelaces and your sword, but others cannot - they are outside the magic forceSalathar wrote:Here is a simple workaround: the magic of the spell envelops the objects that are within certain proximity of the character, thus the sword would also become invisible once it's wielded.

How do you accomplish that through a coding perspective?Mith wrote: Let me abuse this suggestion: the magic of the spell surrounds the player and the items he wields.
