Frustrated with magic/alchemy

Post by One Salient Oversight »

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I have a level 9 elvish swordsman who has just learnt alchemy. He is level 4 in mental things. I am havign great trouble getting him to cast spells - everytime I do it I am told "You have no knowledge of wizardry" - this is the case even though he already knows two spells (including alchemy).

And can someone please tell me how to make a potion of strength. Fronm my search on the internet it seems to be:

1 Ogre's arm
1 philosophical salt
3 water of the wise

I tried this in a cauldron and even got an alchemy scroll - nothing happened.

It's possible you were holding a talisman when you learned those spells and you need the talisman again to cast them, until you can afford a skill scroll. If you don't have (evocation, pyromancy, sorcery, etc) you need to have a talisman of said skill in order to cast skills of that type.

As for alchemy I'm not much of an alchemist but I believe you need to be lvl 10 alchemy before you have a chance at even making the simple alchemical spells.

woo already addressed this, but what is the other spell you have learned?

Just to make sure, you tried using the alchemy skill instead of the spell, right?

Open cauldron -> drop in ingredients -> close cauldron -> stand on top or next to the cauldron -> 'use_skill alchemy -> open cauldron -> success = profit, slag or nothing = try again ;)

Something else to consider, try an easier formula and level up that way, then try some of the more advanced formula.

So Leaf, what you're saying is that the actual alchemy SPELL is not needed. All I need to do is mix the ingredients the way you described above.

Okay I'll try it.

YES YES YES

I made a cursed potion of might with the ingredients I listed above for a potion of strength - but I did create some water of the wise using 7 bottles of plain water. COOL

Any recipies out there that people know? What is the recipie for a potion of strength?

Right, you use the skill alchemy (along with a cauldron and necessary ingredients) to create stuff.

The spell alchemy pretty much terms things into gold nuggets of various value.

So are there any decent recipies? "crossfire -m7" doesn't really help me at all. What makes a potion of strength?

There's a temporary strength boost, which is an ogre arm, some water of the wise, and a pile of some mineral.

But most of the recipes you are looking for can be found in recipe books throughout the game - you can purchase some, or look in treasure chests/on monsters for others
(yes even in the spoiler thread we try not to give away to much :D )

If you are really eager you can try browsing the formulae file in CVS. However as woo said, it's far more rewarding to go looking for the formulae in shops.

hahahhaahahaha

i went to shops, and i cant even read the books i get

there needs to be more published intersting formulea instead of all of the 7 to phil 7 crap. only a couple people care about the money. I use it bo buy new un-melted cauldrons. i experiment often because just doing the formula i can find is really boring. i also killed zeph's class by accident improvising and trying to make philosical wine.
