I think I've found a odd bug with the Windows GTK client. I've tried both the snapshot and the one created in September (both can be downloaded from the SF site). It seems that you can't use GTK 2.4 with it. So far I've tried two copies of 2.4 but it only works with GTK 2.2. If you run the game with the GTK 2.4 it will keep prompting you with the "What is your name/password?" and won't allow you to login. So far the GTK 2.4 I've used are the one on the GIMP for Windows page and the one included with Gaim 1.0. This needs to be fixed because I use the GIMP 2.0 often and they both don't run together with this bug.
Ok. I never knew that. So GTK 2.4 isn't very compatible with 2.2? I'm running Windows and has anybody managed to compile with MingW32? I'm quite sure that at one point however I managed to get GIMP 2.0 and the Crossfire snapshot working fine with each other however.
You should be able to get both versions of GTK running if you install one to an alternate location and modify your paths so the applications can find the proper libraries. I would say install 2.4 and gimp normally and then try installing 2.2 in a different folder and have crossfire use those libs.
Yea but I'm running low on disk space. I've already installed a version of GTK that works with both Gimp 2.0 and the Crossfire snapshot. Anyone know what this one was?
After further testing, there seem to be a bug with WinXP & some GTK versions.
Here is a workaround:
* enter player name in the prompt, as usual
* when asked for a password, *close* the dialog and enter the password directly in the command line (where you enter commands, hopefully ;p)
That should let you login correctly.
I'll try to figure out what's the matter, though i don't really have XP around...
In case this helps: Party password entry box works fine. It seems it's just the box that has letters replaced by *s it has problems getting information from.
