ball lightning bug or feature?

Whenever I stand next to a wall/door/gate/water etc I can cast ball lightning through it to attack creatures on the other side. By doing this I am able to defeat creatures without any risk to myself.
For example enter Jessy's zoo, walk over to the gate and cast ball lightning through it. You can clear out most of the monsters in there then take on the electric immune ones after you open the gate.
Is this a feature of ball lightning or is it supposed to act like this.
This is under windows server 1.6.1 and I have tested it in other areas. As long as the wal is only one block thick, ball lightning will pass through it.
(also works with potions of lasting shock)

Old "bug"/"feature".. I'm not sure if this is intended or not, but it sort of makes sense.. electricity can pass through objects.. especialyl in fantasy land
