Since this board seems somewhat quiet since the xorn discussion died out, I figured I would throw this idea out and see if anyone likes it:
There already exist a series of skills that allow items to be created. I propose that inscription should be extended to do the same to scrolls so that, for example, a scroll and a leperous flake of skin might yield a scroll of cure disease, a scroll and a potion of wisdom a scroll of percieve self and a scroll and a lich dust a scroll of banishment.
This could also give the enchantment scrolls although these should be difficult to get "potion of invulnerability + scroll of protection from attack + defender (yes the artifact sword) + dragon shield + scroll" for enchant armour maybe?
Obviously this requires a new item to make them (writing desk?) and I would suggest that the libary should have a 'study room' analogous to the tannery and smithery etc in scorn.
make inscription more useful

I wasn't aware of that.
I admit it does go much of the way to achiving what I was looking for (does it work with rods also? a couple of scrolls of percieve self are lighter than a rod, and sufficant for any visit to a dungeon, ditto word of recall If I get high enough level scrolls, and more space for loot is good).
I still want to be able to make enchantment scrolls though, and making scrolls of meteor swarm without knowing the spell would be liked (through an 'ingredients' list as I originally envisioned)
Incidentally my reason for assuming it didn't exist was that running crossfire -m7 didn't say that anything needed inscription.
