Cost of prayers rising faster then Grace gained?

Each lvl of praying I am gaining about 2 Grace, however the cost of casting my prayers is going up more then 2 grace/lvl -- essentially making me worse as I go up in lvl's (at least in terms of quantitiy)

Is this tied to my low (16) wisdom?

When I first learned red death (around lvl 40 praying I think) I could cast it. Now at lvl 73 praying it puts me at like -73 with one casting..

I don't think so. It takes time to get up praying. Just ask an older player to level praying.

grace depends on your pow and your wis and your lvl
pow and wis determines your 'base grace points' - it is possible to be at lvl 1 praying and have over 600/300 grace!

for every praying lvl you get 2 more grace points at low wis stat (just like you gain 2 more mana each magic lvl)
if your wis is high (> 25 or so) you gain more than 2 gp each lvl. afaik the pow stat does _not_ affect the lvl bonus, only the base gp.

if you're a human(like) player, just enchant a (wielded) weapon and watch your grace changes every time you add a stat
