Win server Bigworld 1.50 problems

Post by Guest »

Hope this is the right place. I've tried downloading the Windows server so I can see what CrossFire is like. I wanted to do the bigworld to play with it. Unfortunetly, with every download I've tried, the installer is corrupted. I'll try the small maps possibly, but I can't really download the maps seperately, unless I can find a program to do a .tar.bz2 in XP. I may have one so I'll try that also. At least a heads up that there is a problem with it.

bzip2 for Windows:
ftp://sources.redhat.com/pub/bzip2/v102/bzip2-102-x86-win32.exe
from
http://sources.redhat.com/bzip2/

Just feed it your .tar.bz2, it'll make the .tar you can hopefully open with programs like Winzip, ZipGenius, and so on (not sure XP has builtin support for it).

As for bigworld maps being corrupted, i'll check by downloading'em.
(update) I downloaded from different locations, and the file indeed seems corrupted... grr, i thought i took the time to check it was valid after the issue with small world maps.... I'll upload again tonite.

I downloaded the tar.gz files instead. A question, I saw someone mention problems with unzipping the files in Windows because of the endline character being changed. Will this cause problems? I can untar/zip them in Linux, so that's not a problem. I just want to know if I should do that instead.

You _must_ use Linux newlines to extract the files, else the server will not run.
Unzipping/tarring under Linux is certainly the best way to make sure there is no issue :)

I'll update the maps with latest CVS before uploading, actually.
So maybe they won't be online before a few days.

Ok, bigworld maps uploaded again on Sourceforge. Latest CVS (January 8th), with installer, and so on.
Direct link: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/cros ... e?download

Check MD5 to make sure download works fine :)

Enjoy, and sorry for the troubles ^_-

If you're using winzip to extract tarballs I believe there is a settingto mange how it handles newlines. If you're using something else then you might want to look into that.

I used winrar to extract the small maps for use with the jcrosseditor and they are loaded fine, looks like winrar is leaving the unix newlines. I found no setting in winrar to change it in any way though...

Ok, if there is no setting, hopefully it does indeed keep newlines....

Try those maps on server, it may just work :)
