Guilds - who owns them?

Post by fargris »

Who is it that actually sits on the guilds on metalforge? I would like to join one of the guilds, but they appear to be rather elitist sects - no list of members, no information about how to join etc. The effect of this seem to be to create a game in two tiers - the common tier, where you have to do it the hard way, and the privileged tier, where you have all the advantages of belonging to this exclusive club. I don't like it - membership of guilds ought to be available to every player, not something that can be hogged for eternity by small, select groups.

What would you like to see change or made different in regards to guilds in Crossfire?

Hi Leaf,

Well, I have been naughty and poked around in the maps, and it seems being a guild member gives some advantages. Am I right, that there is at least one guild with a teleporter to City de Clouds? As far as I can see, the only way up there, otherwise, is to pass first the dragons and then the wizards in the tower in Navar, something which I still can't as lvl 95 fireborn, since my only real strength is magic which can't be used.

But from a wider perspective, as a player it would seem fairer if all the possibilities in the game were potentially open to any player that qualifies merely on his/her own merits, rather than because you happen to know somebody. As it is now, there is a limited number of guilds, and if one were so inclined, one could create 3 characters, raise the necessary capital and buy a guild and keep it for oneself; which means that sooner or later, no new players will be able to join a guild - this seems to be the case on metalforge now.

As for changes, perhaps we can find a way to ensure that no guild ever becomes exclusive? Maybe they shouldn't be privately owned? Or perhaps there should be a publically accessible list of members for each guild? Or how about making it possible to achieve membership by doing something, like fulfilling a quest or similar? Or smply allowing an unlimited number of guilds - that might solve the problem as well. Plus, there could be 'skill-guilds' where you achieve access to guild facilities depending on your level in the associated skill.
