A few questions I have

Post by Illidan »

Apologies if any of these questions is answered by the help; I've scoured it as thoroughly as I can and can't figure these out, but I might have missed something somewhere.

#1. I'm using the win98 GTK client, and it crashes quite a bit on my machine, so I'd like to move to the Linux version since I dual-boot. I run Suse 8.2. What file/files should I download? There's so many different files on the website, it completely confuses me.

#2. Bags of Holding. Even when the bag is closed, stuff I pick up automatically goes into the bag. How do I disable this?

#3. What's the best method for a level 6 warrior to deal with poison? I've had multiple deaths due to walking along in a "beginner" dungeon like the well at the bottom of town and the well in the middle of town, and suddenly my hp is 73.. 70.. 67.. 63.. you feel very sick x10 or so.. the rustmonsters acid corrodes you (but there aren't any monsters around).. you die.

#4. Id'ing items. When I drop my 20 gold in the magic shop, it ids an item, but how do I pick which one? Getting some zombie corpse I am carrying for food id'd instead of that magic item is quite annoying!

I would download http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/cros ... z?download. Of course you need to compile it..

Stuff goes in to the container when it is (active). I don't happen to recall how to deactivate it, though. How about dropping and picking up? :P

Best method for a level 6 warrior to deal with poison is to avoid it !

It is bad on higher levels, too. Either get cure poison spell, poison resistance or town portal to church. :)

Or simply avoid it. You could use range weapons and/or spells to kill poisoning monsters.

I dunno if marking works here. Anyway, I usually drop the unidentified items I don't want to identify.

As far as i remind, dropping an active item make you emptying it on the ground (you don't drop the active item but it's content), but not sure.

The wheel mouse clic (or third button if you have) cycle the bag through the following states:
none -> active -> active open -> active ->activeopen -> ....

To unactivate it, switch to 'active open' state
then click the close button just above the bag content.

heh, thanks for explaining it tchize. :)

Those containers have always been far too complex for people like me :P

To use a bag, simply activate it and put as much stuff as you can inside.

Moreover, nobody ever empty a bag. When it's full, drop it and take an empy one, no player ever look at what he pick up on the floor, we just pick up lots of useless things. :D

thanks for the info.
This feature seems to be extremely unintuitive imo....

The idea is to be able to open it to see it's content andthen close it without having to unactivate it. So you can pick some items from your bag you browse thru all your bags without having to re apply them.
Resulting behaviour may be unintuitive, but have to reapply all opened bag would be unintuitive too...

You can't unless you have only that item available. I find it is best to use detect magic first and sell anything not magical, then detect curse and dump the cursed items then use identify on what's left. It takes a bit longer but it saves you money. Also use those skills to identify stuff before you lug it to the shop - a lot of things aren't even worth picking up in the first place and you can get a lot more value per load by using your skills (Woodsman, Bowyer, Smithery...).
