Hi,
I was wondering if there is a version of the latest Crossfire build that is made to run on a Windows XP or Windows 2000 platform? I know there is an older release of version 1.4 I believe, but I'd prefer running a server for the latest 1.5. also I remember a few years back I had a Crossfire server running with the aid of some program. What it did was allow me to setup the linux CF server and run it in the window of some sort of program. I forget if it was some sort of Linux emulator for Windows. Anyhow, does anyone have ANY info on CF 1.5 for W32? If you do I'd appreciate any info.
Sincerely,
John
Crossfire Server under windows?

Current CVS server (client not yet, working on that) compiles under Windows (ok, maybe with a few tweaks i could describe if needed), though python support is not working correctly.
Hopefully fixed in a few days.
Also, check those threads:

and
http://www.metalforge.net/cfmb/viewtopic.php?t=180
which should help.
(there's a link to a precompiled exe in one of those threads)
(compiled under W2K here, and windows native program, no need for linux thingy)

Ok I followed those poorly described instructions. I now have the following files. Is there a set of instructions to setup the server from scratch? I looked in the server archive and the doc folder. Didn't see anything on installing. Just the make file stuff.
Files I dloaded
crossfire-1.5.0
crossfire-1.5.0.arch.tar
crossfire-1.5.0.maps-big.tar
crossfire-1.5.0.doc
crossfire32.exe
If someone could tell me where to find the install instructions or list a step by step process to get this server running I'd appreciate it.

Note before starting: make SURE the unzip utility you are using will NOT convert Unix newlines to Windows ones. Any conversion will break the server.
You need to do the following:
* unzip crossfire-1.5.0 to some place
* put crossfire32.exe in the root of that extracted archive
* you should have an arborescence like:
** crossfire32.exe
** make_win32/
** lib/
** (and so on)
* open a command line prompt, change to 'make_win32' dir
* run the 'installwin32.bat' script
* you should now have 'tmp', 'share', 'var' directories
* unzip 'crossfire-1.5.0.maps-big.tar' in share/ directory
You should then be able to run the server.

Ok, I'm stuck here
* unzip crossfire-1.5.0 to some place (DID THIS)
* put crossfire32.exe in the root of that extracted archive (DID THIS)
* you should have an arborescence like:
** crossfire32.exe
** make_win32/ (CANT FIND THIS. ITS NOT THERE)
** lib/
** (and so on)
CANT DO ANY OF THE BELOW. AS I CANT FIND make_w32/
* open a command line prompt, change to 'make_win32' dir
* run the 'installwin32.bat' script
* you should now have 'tmp', 'share', 'var' directories
* unzip 'crossfire-1.5.0.maps-big.tar' in share/ directory
Please note the ALL CAPS isn't shouting. I'm just typing in caps to seperate my words from the original step by step listing.

I just uploaded an installer for Windows.

Also, the 'make_win32' is not part of the tarball. You must grab CVS sources. (sorry, just remembered that...)
Side note: feel free to join #crossfire on irc.freenode.net, you may even get some help there

The Linux emulator you were looking for might be Cygwin:Draugr wrote: I remember a few years back I had a Crossfire server running with the aid of some program. This thread is in wrong forum..
anyway, I think someone (Ryo) should make thread named "FAQ: How to set up server in windows?" in the help requests forum and combine all information found in threads regarding the topic. Moderators could then make that topic sticky..
