rant of the day

Post by Aaron »

this topic to gather any type of problem you come across when playing crossfire that you know needs to be fixed, but your not sure how. just rant about it for a bit, then maybe someone will see a solution and start a thread. also keeps the slightly offtopic ranting about a single isolated situation on one server out of my threads.

ill start off. rods:
rods are making magic useless in the game. anyone can just buy or get a heavy rod of lvl 100ish banishment, and there is no point in leveling your spells if you can just spam rods. also theres no point in playing as a mage cause anything you can do as a mage can be done as a warrior with a rod. you should have to be a higher level to be able to use a rod, prefferably within 10 levels of the spell, so that stops lvl 10s leveling on lvl 100 rods.

and heres another one, use magic items skill:
useless skill, does this make you use rods better? no, experience from using magic items should be dumped in general experience or to a respective skill. this is for the most part a place to dump experience from rods. could we channel half of that xp into agernal xp, and half into the respective skill?

or, to pick up on my suggestion in another thread, use magic item could define the magic ratio for a rod of a given level (something like 1+0.05*(rod level -use_magic_item level)) so that it would have an in-game effect.

Making signs consistent - some are activated by walking over them, others you need to apply to read. This would involve going through all the maps and is very tedious.

If we are talking about standartization, lets standarize doors - when you go outdoor, in some houses doors are in wall, sometimes before it. Also they sometimes need applying and sometimes dont.
I'll be back ;) With python.
