gods, sorig in paticular

Post by Aaron »

ok, talking on irc, the gods need a bit more power, im going to try to fix sorig.

http://crossfire.real-time.com/guides/h ... html#sorig

if you also read down the page a bit, all the gods seem to have been weakened so everyone didnt siwtch to one cult, but now some seem to have been over weakened, and most people seem to play as valriel, gaea, devours, or mostrai. (leaf could we get a printout of that?)

so, i want to increase sorigs power a bit as it was dropped, and hes one i play with, so i know a bit more then gorak or ruggili.

So, as god of the air, he should be against ground things, probably gaeas enemy too? so his slaying is on animals minus dragons and birds and stuff. also i think switching him away form just god of lightning elementals to all air creatures. of course, gaea is also considered the unofficial god of dragons, so let them both be dragon gods? or neither own dragons, so theyre exemt from the slaying on both sides, and maybe even devours? dont know how that will work out... sorigs also a war god, so that should go well, peace against war, and stuff, but still dont like undead things... although that would mean his holyword is effective against everything but dragons and demons... needs a little balencing there

also, lightning spells seem to be lagging behind fire and cold in power and number. of course a well used high level lightning can kill most people, but other than that its useless. gonna try to add some extra lightning spells to the game, and have sorig grant some other lightning spells too, as hes also the god of missles, like bullet swarm at low levels or something. (argue about new spells in another topic, i started plenty of them)

i think leave the repelled restoration, but deny summoning (will explain a bit later), and leave the focuses as they are, but allow turning again, as lack of holy word is a big penalty...

altar effects, remove curse, leave the no remove damnation, enchant weapon/armour (maybe, i dont play as human, have to take someone elses advice on that), and regen healt/spell points. gaea does this, and as sorig's also a god of life, albeit air creatures, i think he should do that too, but maybe only at low and medium levels?

ok, the holy relic. i think that needs to be changed. right now its an elctric chainmail. sorigs god of the air, light weight, and all that stuff, so he shouldnt have the chainmail thing... something lighter like a cape of levitation, and a helmet of xrays, and a robe of shocking maybe, but no chainmail. this is also why i think a repelled, but not denied summoning. summoning, you get all the golems, earth creatures, that dont go with sky. (yea air golems and lightning elementals...) and he needs some downsides. (would a repelled cold and fire be to harsh? and an attuned lightning)

ok, the thing that will cause the most commotion. resists given:
right now he oly gives +30 electricity. i want to mod them up a little, and heres the explenation. thunder storms do all 3 elemetal damage, they do cold damage, the wind and some ice stuff, electricity from the lightning, and fire from when the lightning hits. the only thing lightning is against is ground, as some nice earth walls will block it (or should). so i think a:
+40 electricity
+10 cold
+10 fire
-20 armour
that -20 armour will balance out the rest, and is a big hit for the insane boosts it gets. it might need a little over other negatives to keep everyone from playing sorig again, as thats the reason for wakening him in the past.

also i want to boost ixhalov and ruggili a bit, as they used to be quite powerfull. i think motrai, gnarg, lythandar, and devours only need a little fixing, and gorokh shouldnt need that much, but a little rasing.

It does seem like very few players have gods at all....

This would seem to be a strong argument for choosing a god at character creation, at least for the clerical classes.

Also assumes how I searched the player files is correct or accurate, too.

To summarize, I first checked and counted how many players had "arch skill_praying"

I then did a search for "title" (not the best approach..) and then sorted the out put to remove the "of <foo>" results, which then left me with "title <god_name>"

I copied and pasted that info to here.

If anyone has any better suggestions to help ensure more accurate reporting, please let me know.

Create a .diff and post it to the SF Patches[1] - until then, they are just talk & numbers with no one knowing for sure just what kind of impact it may have on the game.

I need to reread all that as it was a lot to digest. Since I play Sorig I have a vested interest in Sorig not losing prayers or skills upon which I have come to rely. I use create earth wall a LOT and deny summoning would be a problem for me. I do not have a problem with the denied turning nor the denied protection. Nor do I have a problem that Sorig has no enemies. I like that actually. Makes Sorig a challenge to level up in praying but as poof I have managed to get praying to level 68 without holy word, banishment and the like. Once one can learn Face of Death ... well, that works well on a lot of things depending on the level of one's praying. :-)

create earth wall is in the path of creation, not summoning. Paths are denied, skills just forbidden (race/class/god).
