Map reset dependencies

I was doing the warrior proving ground quest with a wizard:ish kind of dragon and it took quite some time to kill the tougher creatures (until I found the right spell for the job). When I was half way done (had gone through one of the pentagrams), I was going to go up and out, only to find out that the starting map had been reset. That sucked, since I had to restart the quest from the very beginning (which I didn't do, I just left the area in anger). There should probably be some dependency tracking so all the maps that belong to an area are reset at the same time or not at all if some map is not ready to be respawned.

It is also quite common that people walk to an area's first map, see that it hasn't been reset and leave it. Currently that makes the rest of the maps become reset, but not the first map. Perhaps the first map should be special cased somehow so it alone can't hold back the reset of the whole area (unless somone is in the map of course or has been there very recently) ?
