and would it be possible to make a windows package that comes with gtk, sorta like gaim? or is there a reason against that ( i susspect there is...)

I'm using GTK 2.6.8 with client, so yes it works.
As for packaging, it can be done, yes. I won't do it, though, but feel free to contribute

there is one very good reason not to include the gtk runtime.
At the moment crossfire has a minimal intelligence requirement to run, this keeps away the illiterate 13-year-olds that blight many similar games.
Requiring users to get the gtk runtime environment seperately ensures that the users possess a level of english sufficiant to understand how words like 'are' are spelt, and that ur was a city in ancient mesopotamia.
Obviously anyone running a *nix is assumed to have reached that level already....
u c wht 1 mean? k thx bi !!!one eleven

unforeantly using *nix hasnt meant youve reached that level...
i concur with your reasoning. i dont mind a slight annoyance to keep them out of the game...

Correction:
many 13 year olds are better skilled at the computer than most adults, and can spell `are'.
I've seen many games require some extra work, and a determined gamer is not one swayed by age.

Beh, the point is "it keeps those too immature to put in some effort, out"
