maps

Post by Aaron »

well, since mikee likes to ... that no one apreciates his skills, lets give him something to do. put all the maps we need/want in here, and describe what they should do.

me first:
a town, not to far away from scorn, like euthville, but a bit closer. make it fairly easy to get to, and self sufficient. make it for levels 10-20ish, so more advanced people can move out of scorn, and do stuff, but not get in too above there heads. sort of like pre-navar, big rooms full of monsters, and maybe a city wide quest or two.

also one other area in scorn for newbies would be nice. something smaller than the newbie tower, but uses staircases, instead of the spiral, so it isnt so much of a walk to get out. maybe one magical item as the prize? a simple weapon, that isnt overly powered?

not for Qs & dragons
maybe an amulet of life saving could be good too ... if we can do one for low level chars only

yea, i play as a dragon and fireborn, so i know it would be useless for us. but it also gets some gold, maybe even plat. maybe a level checker on the door, and offer a potion of life?

What are lvl 20ish monsters like, give examples please (I'm accustomed to making high lvl stuff). Walled town or just a village /me thinking village.

Isn't this a description of santo dominion?

no, Santo Dominion has quite some 'high' lvl maps, along with some rather low lvl maps.
Besides, Santo D. is not close to Scorn (Except by ship)

It's rather a description of Port Joseph/goblin island

REAL high end dungeons...for the level 100+'s....

I've killed Chaos Lord with ease...still working on Ghothwolte...there really isn't that many places to go for high level characters that give a good run for their money.

Hanuk is 1 monster I can't kill yet as his spells are still too much for me, but other than this guy I havent found anything thats really challenging.

Working on Warrior Proving Tower as I've only cleared the basement and now gotta work my way upstairs.

Maybe dungeons like Chaos Lord, but make them for each type of dragon. The fire guy can be something like Chaos Lord + Mega Dragons damage bonus and if he dies you get some crazy amount of exp like 20 million. I would think that a Chaos Lord that had a damage bonus of +500 would be something fierce. =)

I'll design some high end maps if someone wants to create them for me as I don't have time for both with RL issues.

AP is a high lvl killer, especially if you don't know what to expect. And so is the Warrior Proofing Tower (that is, the hidden temple)

I haven't tried killing Hanuk since Ragnor's patch making him actually cast something, but i doubt he would give me real troubles. I have several strategies to test.

It is not hard to make virtually inpossible maps, but it is very hard to make a good, over all balanced map which is playable for both humanoid and dragon/fireborn characters. I have no clue how the latter could for example kill Lorkas or Hanuk.

I am still hoping i'll ever start creating a set of 'interesting' maps for both low and high lvl chars, but i doubt i'll realise this before retirement (which will last at least 41 years)

Anyway, IMHO a good map does contain more puzzle solving and less fighting. I tend to like maps that are challenging for both lvl 40's and lvl 115's (though, granted, killing gothwolthe is still entertaining!)
