Personal Server

Post by timbo »

I loaded python, bigworld maps, server file and it says waiting for connections.

So I go and load crossfire and choose localhost as option and it says cant connect to server.

Am I missing something?

To confirm - are you running the server /and/ the client on the same box/machine/workstation/system/etc. ?

Now that you bring this up, I may have run into something like this when I was testing a local server as well.

I found that typing in localhost instead of typing in the host number (ex: 12) worked.

This was the Windows Server with a snapshot from Jan-02-2006

I didn't investigate this any further. Afterall, it "worked" right?

What OS are you running?

If WinXP XP2, the firewall is enabled by default, IIRC, so you may have to configure it to allow Crossfire Server to receive connections.

(and maybe the client to connect somewhere)

Thanks Leaf.

Typing Localhost works.

this might mean that you have your dns entries wrong in your hosts file. (this is what can cause that problem on *nix systems anyway)

Is this a common problem on windows systems, and if so should the form of the localhost entry in the metaserver list change?
