Shop Changes

Post by Leaf »

With the updates on Nov-04-2005, how you use shops will change. Well, pretty much guaranteed you'll change..

The full details:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/c ... iew=markup

Summary:

Shops only offer reasonable pricing for items that it would normally sell. For instance, an armour shop would pay you more for the following:

armour, shields, helmets, cloaks, boots, gloves, bracers and girdles

But not very good pricing on (for instance..) magical gear such as:

amulets; rings, potions, books, scrolls, ;spellbooks, skillscrolls and wands

And there's more; the geographic location (aka city) that the shop is located in also can influence pricing. For instance, the Scorn Armour shop may only offer you 13 platinum for the Cloak of Minor Protection; but the Brest Amour Shop may offer 30 platinum. You can gauge this pricing by the general level (or difficulty) of the nearby maps. High level maps (or cities) have high level shops, which offer higher prices on your treasure.

What else can you expect?
Your character race may also play a factor on pricing. Some shops may not "like" your character so their purchase may only be 80% of actual price.

You will also discover that when your character examines items they will see information like this:

You reckon it is worth 442 platinum coins, 1 gold coin and 7 silver coins.

This depends on your bargaining skill and your level in the relevant skill. For instance, click on a shield and your estimated value will depend on your smithery skill.

You will also discover that when you go to sell this particular item, you end up with this:

You are offered 52 platinum coins, 3 gold coins and 6 silver coins for it.

Why such a huge difference in price?
Depends on your skill level in bargaining, the shop are are selling to, your skill level in the pertinent skill used to determine the price in the first place and your character race. If any of those values are low - expect your estimate to be innaccurate (by alot in some cases..)

Note: Your charisma (Ch) still influences your buy/sell pricing.

In general...
If you are interested in high profits, the days of dropping all items in a single shop are over at any random city are over. But, with some careful planning - you may be able to buy low at one shop, and sell high at another... 8)
