No longer hero?

In the castle of Scorn, they hail me as the prince of Scorn, but the guards at the exits out of Scorn, no longer open the gates for me. This has happened for my GF as well. How come? Is there some way to regain the hero status, or do I have to get myself a passport unless I want to shout the password all the time?
