copyrights

Post by lalo »

I just realized it would be a legal nightmare to try to publish a book set in the crossfire universe... (I was thinking along the lines of writing a lot of stuff in the wiki then collecting it in book form.)

Does anyone own copyrights to things like the name, the logo? Does anyone have record of who created the gods?

Not that I think any of this is important... it's just... general chat ;-) (although published fiction would be a cool way of spreading the word about the game)

Copyrights on the Name..?
If anyone does own them, they have not enforced it. And given that a car company in the USA has recently released a model called Crossfire - it would (dangerously..) appear that the name is available for open use.

I can't recall who designed the logo. If anyone happens to find or get a hold of roWer, I'm pretty sure he knows.

The god names have updated since their original implementation (Brian Thomas or Peter Mardahl?) - no idea where the names came from. IIRC, philc and dnh (others?) were involved in the update.

In case anyone is interested, Valriel used to be Jehovah and Gorokh was Lucifer.

...and in the Good Bad Old Time of 0.94.x, Jehovah was God and Lucifer was Satan. What an evolution ! :)

One can't have copyright on names but one can have a trademark and even register at such.
Its up to the owner to enforce trademarks. This hasn't been done so you are pretty free to reuse it (but then again, asking on the -dev list wouldn't be a bad idea).

Or heck, just release your story under the Creative Commons license... sort of like GPL for content.
