Locks

Post by Arekusanderu »

Okay, I was thinking just being able to "lock" containers and such so you can leave them without someone else taking them. NOT the same as inventory locking.

Procedure:

Mark container
Apply lock

That simple. Lock then becomes a key with same slaying value as lock, container acquires said slaying value and will not open for anybody but the person with the key. The lock will stay on the box until you remove it through the same proces syou used to put it on (mark locked container, apply key).

Sound good?

presumably that would stop anyone else opening the container, but not stop them taking it. (or presumably from blasting it open with a fire spell, unless you have some /very/ crufty modifications to the objects stats).

The lock could be a 'magic' lock that changes the material of the box to be something fireproof, and at the same time, locks it to it's position on the floor with no_pickup :P I don't think it would be that crufty, to store the old stats to revert to after a hidden item could be put in either the key or the box that contains the origional status of no_pickup, as well as the origional material :-)

I think it might be a neat idea, and also, such locks could be used to prevent accidental guild storage burning :P

I can see lots of fun if a character drops a key, has their character saved, and then have the map the key was on reset (either due to timeout or server crash). Potentially millions of plat could be lost in that way.

..Actually, that might not be such a bad idea

Indeed, the balance people can't complain, because it's a double edged sword

Huh? The only special chests I know of in CDC are some extra heavy ones that are the same as normal only with the material set to iron and the weight being higher (actually those are nice ones, as though iron isn't fireproof, it's is a little more fire reistant than the normal material that chests are set to)

I was thinking they could be picked up, so that you could lock something for.... Oh, say, a gift, so it won't be stolen by someone else. There ARE ocasionally jerks on MF even, and if one piece os worthless without the other, thieves will be discouraged.

The keys also have the same flag as non-reset floors in guilds, apartments and the private house in Navar. Thusly, nobody loses billions from dropped keys.

If you look around a bit they are in the "general store", on the seccond floor. Their names start with "Perminant " followed by a discription of the container.
