Yeah, as a barbarian it would probably be best to train in other things than worry about literacy. You'll fail to learn it from the scroll just about all of the time at 1 int. You many want to make getting potions of intelegence a decently high priority if literacy matters much to you.

ive got 10 int, with both my rings on now. 2 more pots of int, and im at full int for my race
Quetzalcoatl is hard to spell, please copy it from this sentance and paste it when you need to.

12 is max NATURAL int. Rings push you past it. Type 'statistics to see what your natural, real, and maximum natural in each stat is.

Say, for example, you being a quetzal with max of 12, nat of 8 and two rings of int+1, you'd be int 10, but you could use FOUR more stat pots before you hit your max, because your nat is still only 8.

At 10 int you would have an ok success rate with learning literacy, though you might still need as many as 3 or 4 scrolls before it's successful if you're unlucky. For learning spells and skills, I personally prefer to have about 20int at which point failures are rather rare, but that would be difficult to get to as a barbarian.
