To me the question is rather whether we really want an elaborate handiwork system. Think of it: A warrior is a warrior and he could never compete with a professional blacksmith at smithery. Why should he then wish to create his own sword? You could take the idea further and see heroes opening restaurants . Do we really want this?
A better idea (in my opinion) would be that thehero might take interesting resources to a good blacksmith (maybe Mopoon or others) and let him forge a powerful weapon. I remember having been told that in medieval times swords made from meteorite-material were the very top of the line stuff. So imagine the hero finding some meteorite matter. He'd never forge a sword of this himself. But he might pay a blacksmith to do so. That is how the altars for example for dragonmails work. I consider it useless to go much further. (I have not tried the existing facilities, but what I say might also apply to them in a way).

Note that there are already things like that. You can use skills like bowyer, smithery, alchemy, woodsman, jewelry (and maybe i'm missing some) to make items. From food to potions, and so on.
You can make some rings too, and nice swords/helmets/and so on.
(ok, finding the recipes is a pain, it may be easier to find the ring itself

The reason also why this is fun is that, after you reach some level, it just gets boring to simply trash monsters. IMO it's fun to experiment with 'alchemy' (generic term) to enhance the gameplay. Also building apartments would be a really interesting part, if it's ever implemented

Yes ! As Ryo said, it *is* boring just to kill monsters for exp. I think it would be kind of interesting if a hero could open a restaurant

IMHO the game should be relatively open ended. If you wanted to get online and manage a restaurant.. ok.. whatever.

My opinion is, if you don't find one of these side-features interesting.. don't use it. They are mostly distractions in nature.. but can be fun to play with.

Sadly in this case.. the feature is programmed in, and tested.. but disabled due to a lack of graphics and objects to make it work.
