While looking at the 'Who' command concerning the IP stuff, the thought struck me that it would be fun to remove the location component of that command from non DM players as well and replace this function with a 'locate player' spell.
A variable level location spell that perhaps checked against the target's level perhaps. Maybe even go further and incorporate ways to make your character harder to locate (spells and rings and stuff that hide you better).
That would be fun, no? You could play a mean game of hide and seek that way...
Agree!
But it wil be usefil only if party play becomes important, just now locating a player is most often for saving him after a tragic event (crash/errors or similar things)

Yes, that would be pretty cool, but then I would like to see nice looking names, not the map file paths. Ie "Castle of Scorn, second floor" instead of "/city/misc/castle2".
There should be (more) party spells, like summoning the party, casting blessings on all the party members in the area (perhaps needs to see them?). Teleport to party member X, etc.

Yes, I was thinking that myself. Could use the map name except that the map names are not so nice always. Maybe they should be. Now what would be really nice would be some way of defining location by a property field so that you could have things like 'The Dark Forest" or "Scorn" which were not maps actually but areas. It would have to be map independent to work on all servers however, perhaps a system of 'marker beacons' or something?

I may be wrong but IIRC 'who' displays the map name if it's non-empty, and the map path only as a fallback if there's no map name.
