well the situation has got a little better for navar recently, the boat to wolfsburg runs from there now.

i agree that the world map is somewhat lop-sided though...

well there is another issue there, given its proximity to the area, the ships from stoneville should really go to brest and lake country rather than scorn and santo dominion.

It seems odd that the stop-over point on the way from scorn to santo dominion is in the other direction....

Last time I checked, Brest/Brittany does't have access to an (the?) ocean/sea... just a really huge lake.

Probably, but why?

It would defeat the purpose and the unique quality of that ring of mountains and the dangerous journey to get to Brest.

Then every city would be accessible by a boat (except for pupland, which uses dragon transports.)

There is no dangerous journey anyway, everyone uses the teleporters in the scorn apartments (or guild teleporters).

but the boats in stoneville were moved from scorn/santo dominion to brest/lake country then there would be something closer to an equalty between the accessibilty of the 3 main regions of the world

there would be

scorn-santo dominion-pupland-port anthony (brest and lake country by teleporters, mlab by pass)

brest-lake country-stoneville - elsewhere by dragon hanger.

navar-darcap-wolfsburg-mlab when it is committed (high mountain village by teleporter)

obviously the first of these would still be too well connected, changing the teleporters in scorn apartment to point to santo dominion and lone town would rectify that somewhat though....

changing the entrance to mlab to brest would help here also.

Then there would be three places in the game world where a player might reasonably base himself.

Nope, it will still be Scorn for most of us.
There are perm appartments in Scorn, Nurmberg, Santo Dominion and Darcap iirc

Scorn appartment is usefull - its rather big and is on several maps
Nurmber appt is also usefull, but way less usefull than Scorn appt

the other apps are way too small to store a lot of stuff.

So if you want to have players basing themselfves in other cities, make more big appartments.

One thing that would be cool with teleporters is if you would go through some kind of other-dimention map as you went through them. This could be easily made so by changing exits, adding the map etc...

The boat doesn't have to be based in Brest, it can be put just off lakecountry.
