Classes for a new player

Post by Guest »

Hey guys,

Just found this game and have been playing around on my own server. What classes do you recommend for a new player? The class descriptions in the guide mention an overview of what each class does but don't give a new player an idea of how easy they are to play at the beginning or relative power at high levels.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Sure..

For beginning players, the "simple fighter" characters are the easiest to play successfully. The Dwarf, Human, and Warrior are among good earlier choices. As you gain experience with using Crossfire you may wish to branch out into other "fighter" characters such as the Thief or Elf, or try your hand at playing "spellcaster" characters like the Wizard, Mage, Cleric or Priest. The "exotic" races (e.g. Fireborn, Quetzalcoatl, and Wraith) and the Monk class are the hardest classes to master.

A further point, if you play spellcasters then pyromancers are best, followed by evokers. Summoners and wizards are harder to play, and sorcerors are very slow indeed.

It is quite possible for a pyromancer with burning hands to level stupidly fast, although you will burn most of the items before you find them, so looting can be less valuable.

If you have the equipment (talismans and spare spellbooks) a second character can quite happily play any spellcasting class with ease.

If you want eventual power, then look to have + bonuses to pow, dex, str, int, wis, cha, in roughly that order. This makes it easier for you to hit 30 in these stats later on.

Other than that, class doesn't matter overly much, just pick a nice looking picture.....

About the roles, they are not well defined. Many characters excel well in all categories. Human is the obvious example, having no particularly horrid statistics and being able to wear any item. Though getting 30 in a stat is very wonderful. And, yes, you should pick something with a weapon slot. Enchanted weapons are very nice. Don't think: I am a (some class). Think: I am a(n) (insert race), capable of all skills. Though, there are exceptions. Fireborne have a nice advantage with fire magic, and not too much else. Dragons get claws. As a consequence of these effects, the two get no weapons.
