Shouldn't the memory of the aethir be dependant on you int? If you have Int 21, then you have a 50% probabillity of casting a TP at the spot you casted last. This would limit the abuse, but I think not everyone wants to give up their tps to the treasure room, so make it their fault of failure.

I like this idea alot: You score a critical failure, your hand falls off

but now this will make cursed and damned weapons 10 timnes more valubale... :-D

Interesting idea... what would the penalty for failing be? perhaps losing track of where you were tring to make the portal to...
