As for sunspear, it is likely one of the main sources of rod problems. Are you a Valriel follower? If so, fine. If not, well, banishment, sunspear, etc should probably not be so powerful. I had a dark elf take 150 HP in a second with sunspear in a case where as far as I know, the equivalent firebolt (at -30 fire res) wouldn't even have hurt as much.
I had that happen. I learned to respect the little vamps when I use banishment in big rooms...........

Banishment should be slightly underpowered and tweaked like charm.
You need to respect spell casting creatures with rods of banishment.

Rods should have a lower probability of popping up. They should be rare.

Has it been tested and worked on a public server?

Nope, but I tested it on a private server, and it didn't crash.

The point is that I want to limit rods to make them act like they are attunement to a particular spell, so that they are usable up to 5 levels above use_magic_item skill.

The monster patch is a counterpart to that, to keep a vaguely level playing field, they would only use rods 5 levels above their level.

The player patch I tried to budge but that kept segfaulting. I should poke it again at some point.

Obviously however, I can't nerf rods for monsters without doing the same for players, otherwise it would be too easy :)

The other that is needed afterwards, but that I will leave someone else to deal with, is enchant/ dechant rod scrolls, that increase or decrease a rod's level appropriatly.

Perhaps leaf may want to try using this patch sometime, hmmm?
It would certainly change banishment deaths to undead players.l

I only apply map patches.

This is a patch that requires implementation by a "higher power" then me..

What? Then who does control the server leaf?
I thought you performed updates on it. If not, who does?

Leaf is migrating the server over to a debian system, so that he can apt-get upgrade it every now and then.

I think Mark Wedel does the compiling atm, is this correct?
