Determining item values

Post by One Salient Oversight »

I've been playing around as dm for a while, and I would like to know to accurately determine the monetary value of objects that I create. If there is a mathematical algorithim then it would be great to know it.

Some examples of pricing in the game:

A Ring with +1 AC has a value of 1000
A Ring with +2 AC has a value of 2000
A Ring with +3 AC has a value of 12000

A Ring with +1 Strength has a value of 1000
A Ring with +1 Regeneration has a value of 4000
A Ring with +1 Strength and +1 Regeneration has a value of 24000

I'm quite happy with the idea of an exponential cost structure. But Let's say as dm I would like to create a Ring with +2 Strength and +2 Regeneration. Usually I just get a +1 ring of strength and patch the object to have hp 2 and str 2. However the value does not change to reflect this. Would it be better to create an object rather than modify an existing one? And if I do that will the value be automatically determined?

The point is that, when I create stuff as dm, I want the stuff to be priced fairly.

I don't know exactly how the prices are calculated, but here is what i think :

In the arch, there is a value attribute. it seems it is something like a multiplicator, that applies to the basic value of the item. Hence, a food with value 1000 will cost much less than a diamond with value 1000.

The consequence of this is that, in a map, you almost can't have the price of an item exactly as you want, except if you do a lot of tries.

(IMHO, this could be changed)

Item values are modified by your charisma and skill at barter. Basically - look for a item of similar value and abilities to get an estimate when assigning values to your items.
