Quezicotal monk

Post by Ymir »

hopefull i'll be able to make sense of my thoughts on this- but here goes:

For the non-humanoid races: Dragon, and Fireborn, one of the greatest 'advantages' is that they can take the monk class with no disadvantages- they allready can't weild weapons. Taking the monk class gives them access to the very very impressive mediation ability which allows a spellcaster to regenerate manna like how a priest regenerates grace, with a simple skill application.

On to the quezicotal- it's like a dragon, but with natural levitation, and the ability to weild weapons; at the cost of the draconic abilities (aspected claws, natural fire breath, etc) and access to the dragon guild. It could technically be a monk, but this makes it give up the only advantage it got over bieng a dragon in exhcnage for the meditation ability (It also kinda rules out worshiping Gaea, but having weapons enchanted by the various gods makes up for that). This makes the quezicotal a 'bad choice' from a strictly stat based perspective against the dragon since there are more negatives to palying a quezicotal then there are to a dragon.

My sugested remedy is that a Quezicotal monk should ignore the normal 'equip no weapons' restriction, or possibly that there should be a 'second' monk class that equips weapons, but no armor, avalible to all.

First, some race and class combos do not work together nicely. Two examples, Wraith or Troll Pyromancer, Troll <insert spell casting class here>

Various comments..

Not having access to the dragon guild is not a big deal, IMNSHO.

The dragon guild contains a store for dragon PCs to buy elemental residue so they can change their focus and it also contains some information on what monster parts grant them resistances when they eat enough.

Quetzalcoatl is like a dragon, but not a dragon (from a quick glance at the code) in regards to items that offer slay_dragon.

As far as racial abilities on stats and max stats, they are the same. They both gain an AC bonus as they level as well.

A Quetzalcoatl starts out immune (+100) to fire, but -30 to cold. A dragon PC starts out with allof these at 0.

Basically, all races have a benefit and drawback. All classes have benefit and drawback. (OT: On a side note, all cults have benefits and drawbacks..) Some people prefer to min/max, others try to find some middle ground, others take the hard road for the challenge. For this, a dragon has more benefits (or less losses) in being a monk then a Quetzalcoatl.

Quezacotl is not designed to be a monk at all as leaf has so nicely pointed out. The thing about them is, they get the high max stats + the ability to use a weapon, and a level 110 Quezacotl with a Dragonbane+9 will slaughter a dragon, etc etc. While they may not receive all those natural resists, what they do receive is the ability to use a weapon such as chaos sword+10, which provides high resists. Its just a matter of looking at how things work together.
