New maps, what now?

Post by mathwizard »

Hi,

I am almost finished with some maps, which I believe might be integrated into the game. What do I do with them?

Nice thing to do is:
pre) GPL license them.
pre) extensively test them.
1) Pack them up
2) Write a small descriprion (possibly not spoiling, if there is a quest in the map)
3) Agree with some of the developers to have them in. This mean, send them the files. Making the files publicaly avaiable on a link is a good way to have a developer grab them.
4) Maybe think to a suitable location for them, naturaly in the bigworld map.
5) Make a party for your new map in :))
6) Write a description for the site spoiler (this is more or less required, since a map that is not there normaly isn't found easily by players)

now, CHEERRSSS :))
We have new maps :)))

6.2 How do I get my map into the official distribution?

After testing, announce that you've created a map intended for official distribution on the Crossfire-Maps or Crossfire-List mailinglists. Depending one the (file) size of the map, a diff may be created and mailed directly to the list or other arrangements may be made to make the map accessiable via FTP (like on Sourceforge, for instance.)

Crossfire-Maps:
http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/list ... sfire-maps

Crossfire-List:
https://mailman.real-time.com/mailman/l ... sfire-list

Another option is posting the URL to download the maps on here, which would then be passed around (I hope.. )

Dumb question: How do I do it? Can I put comments into the map file, saying it is GPL? If so, how are those comments set?

I don't think there is a need to do any thing with licencing for your maps.
Anyway I havent ever seen this done - just put your name and maybe your e-mail in the map properties if you like (or your cool game alias). If you don't want your map to be GPL (the Crossfire licence) then don't submit it to the general distro... I don't believe anyone would want to start allowing people to publish maps to the general distribution under a different licence condition...

Here is the poop from the FAQ:
6.1 How do I create my own map?

Assuming you've read the Map Guide and know what to do (and as equally important - what not to do!) download the Java Editor and follow the documentation in there. Feel free to send any questions to the Crossfire-Maps or Crossfire-List mailinglists or stop by the Crossfire IRC channel for help.
