Do you think godly retribution should be changed ?

Yes, it is way too quick and too harmful, but the principle is good

Godly retribution again

Post by Azriel »

I think (but it's not the first time i say it), that godly retribution is really too harmful.

And you really can't do anything to escape, because it happens too quickly.

I think we could either tune it down, or replace it with something less harmful : for example you are paralyzed for 1 minute and your AC drops to 10. If there is a monster somewhere, he will kill you (but only once !) and else nothing happens.

What do you think ?

personally, i like Godly retribution, but the way it works is waaaayyyy to dangerous...i managed to obliterate my apartment, along with an entire map. if Godly retribution hits, make it less powerful and only hit once.

It is indeed too quick. Gaea smote me twice today in a row. My ammy of lifesaving absorbed it once. The other one took me down from almost lv 110 to 106. I was finally about to join the ranks of 110s. I was finally able to yell out in triumph at the Metalforge server. Then Gaea smites me.

Oh that note, why did the goddess of peace smite one of her own minions?

Well, it needs change. First, uncontrolled mana is taken. The mana blast makes sense there. It's also weak enough I can survive for a few seconds in it. No mana blast for godly retribution. How about something for each god? Of course, the dieties of malevolence get worse things. Gaea, and possibly Valriel, shouldn't hurt too much.

dying is one thing, but nuking an apartment full of items is a bit over the top. In general it's WAY out of line with other punishments for things... Stealing is 1 death... PKing is 1 temporary luck point... Retribution is 50-100 deaths and all furniture and items in the vicinity of your last bed obliterated... how very random...

mmm, it got me only once and i still have no idea what it does...
i got killed once.
i casted wrathfull eye twice (and one cast takes almost 400 grace) and tried a third time. Valriel didnt like that... :) for i was not in my app, i have no clue what happened (to my surroundings) for i found myself back in bed soon enough....

maybe... i should just cast it in my app... :)

oh, Az, i agree that godly retribution shouldnt kill players. maybe ignore prayers for some time. Have, for example, an 1 (or more) minute(s) lasting unholy ground under your feet or in your inv. is much more gently (allows magic, but no healing i think) for there is a way to avoid one more gravestone...

I think the problem with godly retribution is not the fact that it kills you, but in the way it kills you. Because how often do you really overcast a prayer in your apartment? The fact that u overcast a prayer in a dungeon and the retribution follows you is the problem. It should strike once and be done, not strike and repeatedly strike(as some have had problems with). Now I tend to not know what retribution does exactly either, as I get hit by it and die automatically, and thats the end of it for me(I tend not to spam prayers). But another thing that ticks me off, is that a level 110 player, or even 111, can be brought down in less then a second by this. And due to someones scripting, I also happen to know I'm stronger then the god smiting me, so I consider this somewhat.. not good. I agree that the gods retribution should deal damage, but not instant death, just a large dose, appropriate perhaps to the amount of grace your short of using a prayer by.

I just died (someone said) 83 times because i typed 'f' (face of death) too many times.

Well, let's see the good side of the thing : i'm still level 110 and i'm now immune to death (i can't lose xp anymore : i'm everywhere at my permanent xp).

make godly retribution like a disease (and to be more precise, a disease that deals 200% of max_hp in one disease round)

that way you will not die 83 times, it will not affect your environment (id est: appartment) etc etc

Does this apply to uncontrolled mana?
Uncontrolled Mana creates same results and damage.
