Well once I have a chance I will get one of these cloaks I will test it out and let you know. No promises this week though, as I am traveling on business for several more days.
Did some testing on cloaks with Vulcan and woo in the metalforge arena yesterday, using a lvl 110 rod and a resist_holyword patched cloak.
+50 cloak has no noticable effect on the wearer whatsoever and is completely useless.
Wearing a cloak +100 grants complete immunity to banishment. Seems overpowered.
Wearing cloak +95 just about survives a single blast of banishment if it is not a direct hit and the player gets pushed back. Getting into a long firefight involving banishment is still not advisable with this cloak.
Wearing cloak +99 takes about half health off when hit by a full blast, which is what I originally wanted.
+99 is not a nice number though, so I will re-submit the cloak with +95. If a player wears a +95 cloak and two rings of resist holy word +30 his res will rise to +97. If he on top of that wears an amulet he will get +98.
As for fireborns they can get +88 as it is (2 amulets and 4 rings). This is still very low and will not protect a fireborn from anything. Perhaps he will last a few more milliseconds than one not wearing any holy word resistance. With the cloak (or a same power item) +95 they'd get +99 resistance. Perhaps they too need an item that will protect them?
be careful about extending your conclusions to fireborn, as I understood it wraith start out with -100 res to holy word anyway (can someone clarify this point?)
Wraiths do not have -100 to holy word. I have 0. All other wraiths have 0. Start a new wraith and it will have 0. Worship Devourers and you will still have 0.
Therefore no, +88 is not enough. +95 is not enough. It will (may) make do, but it is not enough.
On a lighter note if someone is willing to do more extensive testing I will be happy to hear about it.
As I understand it your problem is with high level rods, causing too much damage, yes?
It stikes me then that the whole resistance issue is peripheral to that, and that the 'proper' solution is to make high level rods rarer (as was hinted at a while back, but AFAICT has not occured yet).

I really completely agree with that. Make high level rods rarer (all rods), and make banishment less harmful, and coherent with the god "inside" (i.e a devourer follower can't be killed by a devourers rod).
