Banishment kills
Moderator: Board moderators
I agree that Banishment should be made less powerful. Just now it is the 2nd time since I became level 110+ that I have been killed by a banishment rod. I dislike it that there is a random chance of me dying whenever I enter a map, and there is absolutely nothing that I can do about it.
When entering a map expecting to see a few easily killable monsters it is really not good gameplay to deduce 1bn xp instead. Give us a chance to fight back against the evil bearers of banishment rods!
I know it is my own fault for being undead, but when I started playing no one killed me randomly... well, apart from myself!

As a note, I would like to ask that Banishment not be nerfed. It is fine. Banishment does grow in range as you level, but it's only a quick one-second burst. The problem is how a rod fires it. A rod of Banishment will produce a cone which can last several seconds. My natural Banishment is harmless to high level undead and is shorter than one second. My rod is not. Fix the rate of fire, but please do not nerf the spell.
The spell is also very damaging. Even if I wear all holy word protection avaliable in the game (two rings and an amulet?) I can not survive a single cast of banishment (lvl 110). I think as a lvl 115 character I really ought to be able to at least have a chance of fighting back? At my bandwidth by the time I see banishment leave the rod I know I have died and there is nothing I can do about it.
The problem with rods and monsters seems to be that monsters try to fire continuously at the player, killing hte player in shortest time possible. This makes banishment rods even deadlier than the spell.
If no one wants to tweak with rods and spells could someone at least make monsters not carry banishment rods? I can live with never winning a duel, even to a lvl 1 character armed with a rod, but random deaths that loose 14 billion of hard-earned xp are really annoying.

Furthermore, in the Arena, i (a level 109 dragon following devourers) have been killed by a vampire i summoned (i turned him hostile and gave him a rod of banishment level around 30). He cast banishment of Gaea !
All this needs some reviewing, no ?

The problem is that the game is slightly out of balence. It is so easy to get levels and the penalty for dieing is so high. We have users who are 100 in a few days!Zortan wrote: I think monsters should behave the same way -- or if a player uses magic item for a denied spell-path, it should work same for monsters.. one way or the other..but it's gotta be "fair" both ways
It takes away from the desire to do quests with risk, and people endlessly train to run their levels up. I'd almost say that this kind of equalization from a monster is OK. You need risk. But the penalty of dieing is so high.

It's a pity people does not like to quest.
Yesterday, I got the Glowing Crystal from the dark temple with my lvl 16 gnomish monk. (at least I was lvl 16 when I entered, and 19 after completing the quest)
Of course, I knew the dungeon almost by heart, so I was prepared for all dangers (bought a potion of cold resistance before going there for the last 2 ice dragons)
But I was very satisfied of getting it with a lvl 16. More than fighting for hours in a Training area to get my char to lvl as quick as possible...
The day before, I died 3 times trying to get to the 'spellbook of Ball Lightning' in the Stange Mountain dungeon. It was not fun at all, but that's the game...

That's why I think the penalty is too high for dieing and its too easy to level. I end up dead nearly everytime I quest a new map. But nobody wants to take the risk. I had continual run ins with esoteric because he was leveling this attribute or that attribute and would just about kill anyone who was in the same map.
There really needs to be less focus on leveling and more focus on playing. BTW - I lost 3 levels the other night in the dark forest, eventhough I knew all the traps.
