Do you play your role or is everyone a jack-of-all-trades?

I have a problem.. Well we all do.. I've been complaining, others have been complaining.. Well.. here is the problem:

I'm a summoner.. I don't play a summoner.. I want to play a summoner, it's damn near impossible to play a summoner.. Why? As a summoner, I get no bonuses to my summoning spells.. My creatures are extremely weak.. I'm level 16 now (only because it seems too easy to gain levels as a pyromaniac, which I did NOT want to be).. At this level, being a summoner (spell caster) I kill the giants in pupland faster doing hand-to-hand combat, than I do with my summoned creatures.. My fire elemental dies in about 10 seconds against 1 giants, while hand-to-hand I kill 5 before I have to retreat (not great, but better than my summoned creature), while as a pyromaniac I kill about 15 without taking a scratch..

Now logically.. A spellcaster (summoner) should be able to kill better with spells than hand-to-hand.. A specialized spellcaster should be able to kill better with his specialized spells than with any other spell school..

So... Why is it so difficult to play your role and so easy to play others? Seriously..

I'm sure at some ubber level as a summoner I will have some powerful creature, but if I play my role, I will deny my self some easy levels..

There was a topic about summon pet being abused.. Well, as a summoner, I do use that spell a lot.. Side note.. most items my pets drop are cursed any way.. so they're worthless for money..

Back on topic.. my elementals and golems barely do any damage.. my summoned pets.. Well.. my last pet was giving me missile weapons experience, but guess what! I am a fireborn, I don't have arms to use missile weapons!... My current level pets give me pyromania damage.. C'mon! I need summoner damage! I don't want to play a pyromaniac! I want to play a summoner!

Again.. I'm ranting and loosing train-of-thought, but I basically have no summoning spells worth a darn.. Why bother playing my role then? I should just be like everyone else..

Suggestion 1: Any specialised class gets bonus to that classes spells (in potency or duration)..
Suggestion 2: Any specialised class is level-limited in other areas.. So a summoner cannot be too high-level pyromaniac, and vice versa..
Suggestion 3: This is for summoners, as I really want to role-play one.. A summoner should have some control over what he summons.. There should be either a) more summoning spells.. b) a summoning spell that allows you to select what creature to spawn (failure depends on your summon level and the creature you're trying to spawn)..

Please.. someone do something.. Everyone in the end becomes a pyromaniac/evoker/etc. because it's a lot easier to play than anything else.. that should not be..

Zortan, I agree totally.

/me summons the devs. This can really give meaning to a class.

My sorceror is a lev 10 praying and 1h weapons, but only 6 in evocation (strongest magic class). So what makes me a sorceror? I look more like a level 10 paladin than a level 12 sorceror!

Apparently, as it is, classes are just what skills you get at the start, but there is no real difference between a mage and a paladin.

I know there will be people who want every skill and don't like limitations imposed on them, but then I ask, why make us go through character creation? Why have classes? Just pick your race (and race bonuses/limitations) and play as you like..

Right now since everyone has the same spells/skills, who wants to party? Who wants to trade?

Personally, if I was a member of a class that has the alchemy ability, and no other class has it, I think I would be a bit more useful..

Even if I couldn't kill an XYZ creature my self, but I could summon a hellhound to act like a tank, while someone pounds XYZ with spells or melee, hey, what do you know, it would be nice to have me on a team...

I personally think, if nothing else changes, at least people should be level-limited in the classes that they have not chosen to be.. That way not everyone can be good at everything...

You have my sympathy, Zortan. Also, maybe limitations to number of skills would make high lvl players less all-mighty. Better yet, alchemistry skill exclusively to limited number of classes. Also warriors should get more hitpoints compared to spellcasters. These are just some ideas. Besides me just a newbie who doesnt anyway make any changes himself :)

I can't help but feel there should be class proficiancies, to multiply exp by an amount based on class, so, for example, warriors get +25% exp in one handed weapons and -25% in evocation, likewise thieves get +100% exp in lockpicking, hiding, stealing and -15% in praying, or something similar.

IIRC something like this was intended at one point, but not (AFAIK) added.

I think there should be limits to levels for characters not in certain profficiency..

A "Warrior" can be up-to 115 level in swords, but he/she should be limited to say 75 or 80 in any magic type..

Unless you're a paladin, then you can be 115 warrior and 115 praying..
