What is the best protection against skulls etc
What is the best protection against monsters that cast a lot of spells?
Your strategy us your best way out of a castle filled with horrible creatures of the night (skulls included 
)
I typically try to go for "get them before they have a chance to get you" approach, if I fail then ...um...well it's kinda obvious
That approach involves intelligence about monsters, potential dangers of maps, picking the right equipment when going on a killing spree of similar monsters.
Now, if skulls cause a problem (and they always do at some stage) here is what you should *not* try against them : magic damage, cold, poison, paralyze, fear, blind...er..that should be the list. They are either immune of very resistant to all these.
They have no particular weaknesses, well, yes,,being undead and all, so get them with long range holy word, orb, banish and the like. Holy word is nice as it allows you to keep distance.
Being a lvl15 monster Skulls don't cast high lvl spells, so any fire/elec/cold damage that might get ya should not be very high, So lots of hp help there, a high lvl character can walk amongst skulls just because he/she has lots of hp.
Having resistances is an obvious one, also reflect spells helps to prevent most of elec damage (it reflects bolt like spells).
If you play a priest then protection spells/banishment is a good combo vs undead spellcasters.
From my experience powerful spellcasters tend to we weaker in hand to hand so if you get to them make sure to slash them up hard, and beat that idea of magic casting out of them
