Some notes about banishment cast by monsters :
They are VERY dangerous. At level 109, i was killed by a basic angel with a staff level 68. 540 hp in 1 second. That's strange, but he cast banishment of Sorig...
We made some testing with Salathar, and it appears that any monster with a rod of banishment level around 20 can kill me in 1 second. With a rod level 5 i could take around 250 damage (enough to kill low level characters !).
Furthermore, in the Arena, i (a level 109 dragon following devourers) have been killed by a vampire i summoned (i turned him hostile and gave him a rod of banishment level around 30). He cast banishment of Gaea !
All this needs some reviewing, no ?

Banishment kills

Aren't undead usually denied banishment/holy word? Aren't followers of certain gods denied certain spells/abilities?
Specifically vampires.. I believe they are considered "undead' therefore should not cast banishment.. If they use a rod (fine) it should do no damage.. I know as a devourer when I used level 110 rod of banishment, it didn't kill a thing..
I think monsters should behave the same way -- or if a player uses magic item for a denied spell-path, it should work same for monsters.. one way or the other..but it's gotta be "fair" both ways

I agree with Zortan. Futhermore, i think the way the levels of the rods are distributed (pick at random one number between 1 and 110 ?) is not good.
Level 110 rods should be VERY rare, and level 10 very common. It's clearly not the case, seeing the number of high level rods one can find in a small amount of time.
That will not solve the problem that a rod of banishment level 20 can kill you in less than 1 second, but well...

Banishment certainly is a powerful spell if you are affected by it (that is if you are undead or if you are hit my a banishment of a god that so unpleasantly happens to hate your kind)
Power is good
, but it feels like the spell is way too powerful at the moment.
Let me give you an example. Az mentioned that we have done a bit of experimenting, as far as I am concerned the result was shocking : all it takes to kill a lvl 110 player is a lvl >5 rod of banishment . The rods are really easy to come by and if you do happen to stumble upon one of banishment it is highly likely to be >lvl5. Add to that the fact that the spell also comes in a form of wands.
Let’s extend this even further, take a priest, say lvl 10 praying. Banishment is a lvl5 spell, with starting cost of 10 gp. This little innocent lvl 10 priest is capable of casting it several times, and this is all it takes to kill a lvl 110.
Quote from the website (http://crossfire.real-time.com/spells/magic.html#b):
"The prayer of banishment may cause weaker enemies of your god to immediately disappear or die. It is a cone spell."
Well, I am currently lvl 112, and I am sure I will speak for all higher lvl players, we are not inclined to consider ourselves very weak, everyone dies of course, but a death from a lvl 10 is nothing compared to a death by a hand of lvl 125 monster.
At this note...Does anyone else think banishment is overpowered ? Perhaps there should be a roll vs player lvl or the spell should be more difficult to come by in any form?

Maybe a misscripting? As far as I know the banishment thing with monster levels work (can't kill a lich with banishment at lv 5 heh) Maybe there is some error that causes to count player levels as 1?Sorry if I am wrong but uh I don't really script(yes blame me I'm one of the few who play cf,do NOT script AND post in this forum)
I is sexy,ain't I?
Misscripting/scripting what exactly do you mean ?Matin wrote:Maybe a misscripting? As far as I know the banishment thing with monster levels work (can't kill a lich with banishment at lv 5 heh) Maybe there is some error that causes to count player levels as 1?Sorry if I am wrong but uh I don't really script(yes blame me I'm one of the few who play cf,do NOT script AND post in this forum)

The experimentation that I referred to did not involve any scrips, I just watched Az bring death to me in 1 second, thats what it was

Interesting idea about lvl of a player being counted as 1....I am not a coder myself, will try poking the source, perhaps someone else can help me ?

P.S. Fixed that quote, now that I know how
