A Banner proposal

Post by Lauwenmark »

Here is a dirty sketch of a new banner proposal for Crossfire.

Second draft of the Crossfire Banner:

Comments and critics very appreciated.

Over the first one (see below), I:
- Used the same font as in the current logo;
- Cleaned things somewhat;
- Tried to give the dragon a 'meaner' look (I mostly failed).

I didn't add blood on the sword because since I use only a black pencil, it wouldn't have been easily visible. This would be easy to add on the colored version, though.

Making the dragon shoot the burning letters of the word 'Crossfire' sounds like an interesting idea. Unfortunately, this goes beyond my drawing capabilities (Of course, someone else is free to transform my picture to make that).

The first attempt was:

Anyone volunteer to color it ?

I think the dragon doesn't look mean enough :)
And I like the font of the old logo. Could we keep that one?

I think that the sword can be bigger, with blood dripping from it and/or having a 'bite' out of it.

No blood please :roll:

We are lacking vote options here once again. I like the dragon in that picture but I still prefer the old logo. :P

I do not quite like the font of the writing. Also the dragon is a bit inactive, he looks almost sleepy. Maybe let the dragon spit the fire and it forms the letters of Crossfire (this would be nice if rendered into a small animation at startup of the client).

A second version of the banner is now finished. I edited the first post, so you don't have to scroll here :)

Well, with a new post it would have been easier to notice the differences.

And a few new comments on the second draft:
* Looks even better than the first one.
* I guess the 'i' will be fixed so it's still on the banner.
* The sword still seems a bit strange to me. Looks more like a very long sabre.
* The dragon is already a lot meaner. However the horns remind me of a demon and not of a dragon. And the neck is a bit too straight.

All in all I think we will have a new perfect banner soon :)

You definitely good to draw :)
I just like the first one, with a good coloration and some modification on the dragon it will be perfect.
I like the idea of having of a semi sleeping dragon, it look like a "smart dragon" not just another hack&slash dragon. Making a too aggressive logo will just put us in concurrence with games like diablo, cf is not that type of game. Let the logo transmit more a "intresting game" idea.
In the end we have dragons, but not only them...
(actualy dragons in cf are cheap :P)

I seem to recall a README or HOWTO for how the current Crossfire banner/graphic was created while using The Gimp

But for the life of me, I can't find that anymore.:x
I was certain I stumbled across it on the original Norway FTP server.

Anyway, the document indicated what font and script-fu was used to create the text and had other info on the drop shadows, etc.

IMO; the font type, effect, etc. is very nice and we should try and keep it while updating the other aspects of the graphic (different monsters and so on..)

Definately on the right track with the scetched banners though!
