I have a better idea : allow high level players to convert altars, but when he does so, the god will be angry, and will teleport you to a place to fight his minions (big monsters of course, for you need to be level 100 to convert the altars).
For example, if you convert the Valriel altar, you have to deal with archangels, etc... 0 xp and no items for the monsters : you want to convert altars, you only suffer the god's wrath.
One could add a message in the temple saying something like "Something strange happened here" to warn other players.
With this, a high level priest can orient the religious feeling of the city, mainly newbies, but knows that he may die doing this, and will get no other benefice (that's true faith).
I'm volunteer to make the maps if people think it's a good idea.

But I do not like the idea for a newbie area. Newbies need a relatively "safe haven" in which to learn the game. That "safe haven" is Scorn as of now. If high level, more experienced players want to jerk each other around by playing with altars that is cool with me. Just not in Scorn on crossfire.metalforge.net or in the maps on CVS. What you do on your own server is your business of course.Azriel wrote:With this, a high level priest can orient the religious feeling of the city, mainly newbies, but knows that he may die doing this, and will get no other benefice (that's true faith).

Re: Altars and portals
This has been discussed on mailing list (i even think i initiated the thread).leaf wrote:I thought there was the possibility to specify a map as "no town portal" or "no word of recall"
Or, am I remembering incorrectly here?
But afaik no one did anything to implement that
