Occupying the center of the map is a large room containing bats and a pair of generators. Sealing this room is a set of four grates, which are linked to buttons below some gems in a nearby treasure room.
I believe the intention of this (and this is how it behaved in 0.94) was for the grates to rise as the map loaded and the buttons were pressed down. Then, if the player grabbed the gems, the grates would fall and unleash the bats.

However, in 1.6.0, the grates never rise - greeting unsuspecting low-level characters with a seemingly endless swarm of bat-flavoured death. Furthermore, even after picking up the gems, they remain open.

This implies that there's been some change in the way buttons are handled, which may break other maps. The one thing I can think of is that rather than being set invisible, the buttons are simply placed under the floor.
